A Record Breaking Metz

So we all arrived back from Metz after a busy week of flying and setting a couple of world records!

After arriving within plenty of time to get fuel and fly on that evening, it was actually not going to happen. The organisers had decided not to have refuelling open until 8:30pm, which meant we weren’t able to fly. It was a shame, but it did mean that we could go to the local supermarket and stock up our fridge and cupboards and get an early night in time for flying in the morning.

The morning flight was cancelled due to incoming rain, but the evening looked great. Sure enough it was! We ended up flying down the runway in a tight bunch with around 15 other balloons, all touching, about 10 feet above the ground! Certainly a flight where you need your wits about you as other balloons were constantly joining the pack and others were leaving, lots on concentration needed.

The week started to get windy and some interesting storms came through the area.
We had a great Gite for the week, about 30 minutes away, but it was brilliant. When we arrived it was 40 degrees Celsius, but opening the doors to the gite and walking in was like walking into a fridge! Because it was made out of great big thick stones, it kept it lovely and cool in the day, and kept the warm in at night.

There is plenty to do and see around the area and we made the most of it.
The sun finally made an appearance again towards the end of the week and we set a world record for the most amount of balloons in the air from a balloon meet, which was 408!
Then a day later we did the usual record – this is to try and get the most amount of balloons in a line along the runway. This year we beat the world record with 391 balloons!

We didn’t manage as many flights as we would like, but we all had a great time and we are all looking forward to 2015 already and hopefully breaking both those records!
