Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2013

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta started off with the press launch on Tuesday with around 25 balloons launching from Greville Smythe Park in Ashton. We were flying in the BWS balloon and had a great flight landing in Stockwood just under an hour later.

The fiesta then got started on Thursday. We had both balloons there – G-BOOB and BWS.
Thursday evening’s flight is usually only for special shapes and commercial ride balloons, but we got special permission to fly! We were to fly Rachel Edwards who was the winner of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta’s Facebook competition.
We had a great 1 hour flight to Longwell Green.

Friday’s conditions were slightly marginal because of the wind conditions. Because of this the flight director had put a minimum flying experience limit of those that were able to fly, unfortunately I didn’t have the needed experience so we couldn’t fly either flight on Friday.

Saturday morning saw perfect conditions and we got G-BOOB ready for flight. We had a press photographer on board with us on this flight.
A total of 106 balloons flew on this flight, with a record breaking 74 balloons landing at the old Cadbury’s chocolate factory in Keynsham. A brilliant flight!

Saturday evening saw the conditions stay with us, the sun was shining and the people were flooding to Ashton Court. It usually takes me around 4 minutes to drive to site, on Saturday afternoon it took me 47 minutes!!
We flew BWS out of the area to great cheers from the crowds! We landed in Hanham Football Club 45 minutes later. It took longer to get back to the site!!

Sunday morning was originally looking like it was going to be raining, but this actually came through early – whilst the night glow on Saturday was happening in fact. This meant that Sunday was actually looking great for flying!
It was a little breezy, but we took G-BOOB to the skies again, landing just a stone’s throw from where we landed on Saturday evening – at Dundridge Park in Hanham.

Sunday evening was unfortunately too windy, but this just meant that we could start the party early!

It’s been a brilliant fiesta and would like to thank all of the crew that helped over the weekend, and especially the organisers – this year has been brilliant! Looking forward to next year already.
